A wood cover in Orange County has two enemies. Inland it is the sun: the finish fades, the beams check and twist, and the termites arrive. Near the coast it is the damp: the marine layer sits on it every morning and the salt air works on every fastener. Either way it wants restaining every couple of years. Alumawood is extruded aluminum with a baked-on wood-grain finish. It does not rust, warp, split or attract termites, and the color is part of the finish rather than a coat on top.
The posts, beams and rafters are sized for your span and for the wind at your address, so a cover can run the full width of a Yorba Linda two-story or shade a single seating area behind a Long Beach bungalow. Colors and edge details are chosen at the estimate.

Questions about patio covers.
It depends on which side of the marine layer you live. Inland, in Fullerton, Yorba Linda or Santa Ana, an August afternoon wants a solid or insulated roof. Near the coast, in Huntington Beach or Long Beach, the sun is softer and a lattice or a combo keeps the patio open to it. A combo, solid over the table and lattice over the rest, is the answer for most homes in between.
Alumawood covers are engineered per project. Spans, post spacing and beam sizes come from the size you want and the wind load at your address, which matters in the Santa Ana wind corridors, so there is no fixed maximum for a typical backyard.
Not the way it affects steel or wood. The structure is aluminum with a baked-on finish, so it does not rust, and within a mile of the beach we specify stainless fasteners. The finish is warrantied by the manufacturer against chalking, and the cover carries our lifetime warranty on labor and materials.
Yes. Irvine, Yorba Linda, the newer tracts in Buena Park and most of the planned communities south of the 405 have an architectural committee, and each one wants roughly the same packet: a site plan, the color, and the manufacturer's spec sheet. We prepare it, submit it, and answer the committee's questions. It is the one part of the schedule we do not control, so we start it first.
Almost always for an attached cover, and every city here issues its own: Fullerton, Long Beach, Santa Ana, Irvine and the rest each have a building department with its own forms. We pull the permit as part of the job. Small freestanding structures sometimes fall under the size limit; we tell you which applies to your address at the estimate.
